Self Adhesive Vinyl

What is Self Adhesive Vinyl?

Self adhesive vinyl is a thin, printable plastic with an adhesive coating on one side that allows it to be installed onto a solid surface. It is very versatile and especially well suited to wide format digital printing. The material is also flexible, allowing it to be applied to more than just a flat surface (though this is of course preferred!) Sometimes also known as adhesive film or sign vinyl, the sticky backing performs well when installed on most solid surfaces, including metals and plastics.

The Advantages of Self Adhesive Vinyl

Choosing a self adhesive vinyl to print on gives you a range of benefits:

Long Lasting Quality

Colour adherence to vinyl is great, especially using a wide format printer. This results in high quality print with minimal bleed and excellent clarity. Once complete, the printed material is durable and long lasting too, ensuring your customer is happy with not only the print quality, but also the longevity.

Versatility

Self adhesive vinyls and films are some of the most versatile print materials currently available today. The huge range of specifications, not only of the vinyl itself but also the adhesive backing, makes it suitable for use in all sorts of applications, both indoors and outdoors.

Ease of Use

Both in print and in practice. Printing onto vinyl tends to be much easier, with less hassle than many other materials. It is easy to cut and shape, offering excellent versatility.
Installation is also simple and results are great with some basic preparation of the surface it is being placed on (cleaning).

Types of Self Adhesive Vinyl

• Low-tack vinyl – Is much easier to remove than the permanent or high-tack equivalent. This is recommend for more temporary installations, where the print will only be needed for a few months.
• High-tack vinyl – As the name suggests, high tack vinyl has a much stronger adhesive that makes the print stick for instantly and prevents it coming off the surface over time.

Uses and Applications

Self adhesive vinyl sees use in many different applications including graphics, coverings, stickers labels, lettering, notices and more. It works perfectly on walls, windows, vehicle bodywork and much more! In fact, any sound, smooth solid surface makes for an ideal application.

Installation

Installation is easy and provided the surface having the vinyl installed upon it is properly prepared, results should be excellent.
To install, first clean the application surface thoroughly with a suitable cleaning solution. Then, peel off the adhesive liner in stages (depending on the size of the graphic). Start from the center, placing the vinyl onto the installation surface and working out to the edges using a squeegee to eliminate any air bubbles.
