Mimaki – Machinery Manufacturer Spotlight

Mimaki-machinery-manufacturer-spotlight

Mimaki was founded in Japan in 1975 as Mimaki Engineering to produce pen plotters and inkjet printers for the industrial market.

In 1983, Mimaki launched the world’s first A2-size flatbed pen-plotter, and in 1997, the world’s first inkjet printer using water-based pigment ink, the JV-1300, a great innovation for sustainable ink production.

Two decades later, in 2003, Mimaki launched the world’s first high-definition, low-cost eco-solvent inkjet printer in the JV3-130S, and then the first ever low-cost desktop UV LED curable inkjet printer in 2010 with the UJF-3042.

2013 was the year of the world’s fastest dye sublimation inkjet printer, the TS500-1800.

And we’re not finished yet—in 2014, Mimaki had the industry’s lowest-cost large flatbed UV LED inkjet, the JFX200-2513, and a year later, the world’s first sublimation inkjet printer with a wide-gap printer head, the TS300P-1800.

Recent innovations include the UJV100-160Plus and the UCJV330-160, the latter a roll-to-roll integrated printer that significantly improves the quality of sign graphics.

While Mimaki is a Japanese brand, it operates Mimaki Europe B.V. in Amsterdam, which distributes and resells printers in the region.

Printer range

Mimaki specialises in large-format inkjet printers with LED-UV technology – these models don’t require drying and offer rapid print speeds over 50m2/h.

Unique technologies include a nozzle check unit (NCU), a patented dithering technique that reduces pattern and error diffusions, and the Mimaki Advanced Pass System, which reduces the banding and uneven colours sometimes found with fast print speeds.

The UJV100-160Plus is Mimaki’s entry-level UV printer, offering reduced running costs and low power consumption of 0.5kW. It consumes approximately 20% less energy than solvent and latex printers, helping businesses minimise their carbon footprint.

An ink-saving function can also reduce ink usage by up to 50% while maintaining natural colour gradation.

It supports multi-layer printing, enabling vivid expressions on coloured, transparent, or backlit substrates. It also supports white and colour inks, expanding the range of applications from labels and signage to window graphics.

Mimaki JV330 Series

Mimaki’s flagship JV330 Series eco-solvent inkjet printers combine over 20 years of engineering expertise to deliver beautiful image quality, high productivity, and value-added functions.

These mid-to-high-end printers have enhanced chassis rigidity and innovative waveform control technology, improving droplet placement accuracy by up to 650% compared to previous models — the drop technology suppresses banding, meeting professional requirements for outstanding image quality and high productivity.

There’s an X.Y. slitter for efficient post-processing, a media changer, a V-shape cut function, and a maintenance mechanism for reliable long-hour print operations.

The SWJ-320EA is Mimaki’s 3.2-metre super-wide solvent printer designed for high-volume, non-stop print production.

With four high-speed staggered print heads and an optional twin-roll feature, this powerhouse can print large-format images up to 3.2 metres wide or on two rolls simultaneously at speeds up to 137 square metres per hour.

Utilising Mimaki’s affordable CS100 solvent-based inks and featuring a strong media feeding system and newly designed tension bar, the SWJ-320EA ensures steady, premium print quality even for larger prints.

It also offers an optional BOFA Air Purifier unit with a dual fume extraction system to remove VOCs, reducing ink costs and environmental impact.
