EFI – Machinery Manufacturer Spotlight

EFI’s story began in 1988 when Efraim “Efi” Arazi founded the company and opened its first office in San Francisco.

Three years later, EFI introduced its pioneering Fiery colour server technology that revolutionised colour management in the printing industry.

By the mid-2000s, EFI recognised that industrial inkjet printing would drive the future, prompting strategic acquisitions of VUTEk in 2005, then the leading super-wide digital inkjet printer manufacturer, and Jetrion in 2006, a company producing inkjet printers and inks for labels and packaging.

EFI evolved into a global technology leader from those transformative moves, spearheading the worldwide transition from analogue to digital imaging for signage, packaging, textiles, ceramic tiles, and building material manufacturing.

Today, EFI develops groundbreaking printers, inks, and integrated software/hardware solutions that increase profits, reduce costs, and optimise productivity for print providers.

EFI Reggiani ecoTERRA water-based pigment is another handy innovation, this time for textile printing – it eliminates pre-treatment, steaming, and washing, using up to 90% less water and at least 60% less energy.

EFI Printer Range

EFI manufactures roll-to-roll, hybrid flatbed/ roll-fed, and flatbed printers to support countless formats. Their super-high-speed printers are the best around, with the likes of the EFI Nozomi 18000+ LED printing 65 linear metres per minute.

The Q5r is a roll-to-roll printer with wicked print speeds, printing up to 672 square metres per hour with stunningly photorealistic quality up to 1200 dpi through Piezo drop-on-demand 7pL UltraDrop Technology.

Think of the VUTEk Q5r as a streamlined all-in-one print-to-finished graphic solution with automated inline inspection, slitting, cutting, and taping built right in.

Printing on a single roll or using a triple 1.6m roll capacity is a piece of cake, ensuring even the widest and longest print runs go ahead with relentless production power.

The 5.2m EFI Matan 5 roll-to-roll printer is perfect for super-wide format printing with three separate roll inputs for uninterrupted production.

Superior quality is achieved through Matan’s precise single- and multi-layer white ink capabilities, which unlock new creative opportunities for multiple media formats.

It offers premium performance without the premium waste – the unique roll loader minimises material usage by up to 300% compared to other printers.

Fully integrated inline finishing automates the entire print-to-product workflow for maximum efficiency. You can print at speeds up to 353 square metres per hour on an incredibly diverse array of flexible substrates.

Speciality graphics and fine art are the EFI Pro 24f flatbed’s bread and butter. Its 1.2m x 2.4m vacuum table ensures pinpoint accuracy on virtually any rigid material up to 5cm thick.

Four selectable vacuum zones provide zoned media control without masking, with ultra-high resolutions up to 1200 x 1200 dpi and grayscale drop patterns. Printing outputs boast incredible detail, precise text, and sumptuous gradients.

Dual channels for white ink enable creative embellishments and multiple layers alongside vibrant LED-cured inks for photorealistic quality.

The built-in Fiery processing power and multi-board printing of up to 107 square metres/hour ensure professional production at scale.

The VUTEk Q3h series merges flatbed and roll-fed technologies, allowing it to conquer virtually any rigid or flexible media application up to 3.3m wide and 5cm thick.

Eight dual-array printheads pump out staggering speeds, reaching 905 square metres per hour using precise 1200 dpi 7 picolitres grayscale imaging.

Combining CMYK or CMYKcm inks plus optional white and clear coats results in offset-like quality with stunning colour vibrancy, low pile height and incredible detail.

EFI’s brilliant LED curing technology expands printable substrates while minimising operating costs and VOC emissions. With multiple automation options available, the VUTEk Q3h streamlines 24/7 production uptime for maximum throughput.
