Frequently Asked Questions
What are window vinyls?
They are a smooth, strong film for flat surface applications like windows and flat plastic sheeting. It can have a high or low tack and be flexible or semi-rigid. Some vinyl uses no adhesive and forms a bond by friction (cling vinyl).
What are window vinyls made from?
Window vinyl is usually made from PVC (polyvinyl chloride) or an alternative, recyclable plastic like PET (polyethene) with a solvent-based acrylic adhesive. QuickDot vinyl uses an acrylic, dotted adhesive to prevent air pockets.
What types of window vinyl are available?
We stock permanent and removable adhesive vinyl, dotted, static cling vinyl, one-way vision vinyl, white vinyl, glass etch vinyl (ideal for translucent privacy), and semi-rigid vinyl. All are suited for installation on glass and polycarbonate.
What are the applications of window vinyl?
The obvious application for window vinyl is windows, including storefronts, and inside office blocks. Window vinyl is also suitable for low-energy plastics – such as hygiene screens, and store dividers.
How to install window vinyls
It is either adhesive or cling-type. With adhesive vinyl, you peel off the liner and stick the vinyl to the window, using a squeegee to form a bond. With cling vinyl, the media acts like a suction cup, clinging to the surface, which you typically apply in the same way as a vinyl.
